Automatic Event Handling and system status

We are usig Systems Insight Manager 4.1 with SP1 - Windows, C.04.01.00.01. All managed servers have the InsightAgent 7.10 installed. I have setup an automatic event handling using smtp. I do receive event messages ok but no events where the HW status becomes degraded. On the server snmp installed but no trap destination configured. Do I need to configure the snmp trap destination in order to receive events regarding hardware status events?
