Cannot Save a New Task with Automatic Event Handling

Hello,
I just recently built a server with SIM 4.2 and I'm in the process of configuring all the settings including event email notifications. However, I have not had any luck with successfully saving a task. Instead I receive the following message after I hit "Finish":
"Unable to save event and system criteria. Please edit criteria and retry."

Previously, I had a server with version 4.1, but it died. However, I didn't have any problems with creating and saving tasks when that server was around.

With the new server, I double checked to make sure the email settings were correct and I tried creating the old tasks that I had with v4.1 along with different tasks containing different events and system names, but SIM doesn't appear to like any of them. It won't even accept the default settings.

Any ideas or remedies are much appreciated.

Hi Cynthia,

Just a long shot, but are you logging into SIM console with an account that has rights to create tasks? I dont use this feature myself (I just give myself full control and be done with it) so I am not sure if you can even lock users out of being able to create this type of tasks.

However, just to eliminate that possiblity, try logging into SIM with an account that has full rights...if you are not doing so already.

Hi Nelson,

Yep, I'm logged in with administrative rights.

Re: Cannot Save a New Task with Automatic Event Handling

I am having the exact same problem. I installed HP SIM 4.1 from scratch and was able to create new event handling tasks with no problem. I then upgraded to HP SIM 4.2 and still had no problem creating tasks. I believe that it was after installing Support Pack 7.2 that I started having problems creating new automatic event handling tasks. After going through all of the steps in creating the task, when I click finish the following pop-up message appears:

"Unable to save event and system criteria. Please edit criteria and retry."

I checked the mx.log and everytime the new task creation fails an entry similar to the following is entered in the log:

The name "Hidden Queries" does not represent a query category in this system.

The item in quotes usually is the name of the task I was trying to create. For some reason Hidden Queries appears once in a while, but I don't believe that the key to the problem lies there.

Has anyone come across this problem and fixed it? I was going to call HP Support, but I figured I would try this first. If anyone has contacted HP Support about this problem, what kind of response did you get?

Thanks for any help in advance!

By the way, I do have complete admin rights.

Re: Cannot Save a New Task with Automatic Event Handling

I have the fix! I called HP and got support on this issue. The problem was caused by a rogue entry in the HP SIM Database in the hpmxUser table. The entry is "mxadmin". The actual mxadmin account should appear as "systemname\mxadmin" and is probably in one of the first couple of rows in the table. Once you change the name of the rogue "mxadmin" account, or delete it, you will be able to create new tasks again!

Hope this helps everyone!

Thanks Scott.
I will definitely have to give that a try.
