CIM and CMS

Hello -

I am confused, so please excuse this rather detailed post.
I have a rack of Proliant servers running windows 2003
server and also each running SIM (Systems Insight Manager).
I have installed SNMP Service on these Proliants. I want
to monitor the health of this rack from my pc running
CMS (Central Management Server).

On the monitored servers I have tried to configure SNMP
Service but not SNMP Trap Service. I am thinking
SNMP Trap Service gets configured on the pc running CMS.
Correct me if I am wrong.

=========================================
SNMP Service on the rack servers is set up .... how?

LOG ON ?
AGENT ?
TRAPS - community name?
- trap destination (the CMS server address?)
SECURITY
- check box "send authentication trap"
(is this how you send test traps? How does
this check box work ???)
- Accepted Community Name?
- Accept SNMP from any host?
- Accept SNMP from these hosts?
DEPENDENCIES ?
==========================================

Now on the CMS pc - how is SNMP Service set up
here, and how is SNMP Trap Service configured
(assuming it is configured here)?

- any start parameters?
- not much here, it seems as long as this
SNMP Trap Service is running, the
SNMP Service on the rack of servers should
be pointed to it?

When I set up CMS, it asked for Administrator, Operator,
and User group names. What are they for - logging into
the Tomcat server on the CMS pc to look at status?

I don't think all the agents were installed the first time,
did anyone else have to do multiple installs of
T2415BA_4.02.00_Win.exe to get all the features??

Re: CIM and CMS

I would suggest using "Configure or Repair Windows Agents" as being the quickest and easiest way to get your managed devices configured properly.
