Common questions
I'm not sure how to phrase this without sounding like a grouchy old man. Despite what this is going to sound like, I'm not complaining, but rather encouraging everyone to be able to get something more out of the forum.
I've been noticing more and more that the same questions are being asked and answered over and over and over. I know the list is dynamic, so after reading this thread it won't appear this way any more, but just a minute ago the first page of the forum featured 3 separate threads about which ports were necessary to open in the firewall to get hpSIM to access the agents.
It's great that we have an active forum, but it's not that active. I'm not saying you have to read through the whole forum before you can post a question. Searching isn't really the answer because of inconsisten text describing the products, from spelling out Insight Manager to IM to IM7 to IM7 SP2 to IM7SP2.3.
Many of you might run into the answer to your question if you read the front page and just 2 more behind it. The best part is that even if you don't run into your exact question, there may be another issue that piques your interest that you run into along the way.
Also, don't forget to check the product documentation. There are hpSIM and IM7 security reference guides and a bunch of other stuff available for these and the other management products. I know that hp.com sometimes makes finding that stuff difficult, but at least for this set of products, they can all be accessed by going to http://www.hp.com/servers/manage and then accessing the individual product and then the link labeled "documentation" or in some cases "informatin library."
