Compaq Management software

Compaq Management software

I am trying to install ver 5.50 of this software. I have msde 2000 installed on another server. I am trying to configure the compaq software to use the msde 2000 on the 2nd server. When I enter the information in the compaq software of the location of the database, it comes back as the server running the msde 2000 is not accessible. Do I have to setup the 2nd server (msde 2000) with the security set as sql, none, or password only? I eventually want to upgrade to hp sim.

Re: Compaq Management software

Are you referring to 'Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) 5.5' or possibly the Insight agents version 5.5? In either case, STOP IMMEDIATELY. Both of the above in question are out-of-date, unsupported, and don't support any hardware newer than 5 years old. Further, there is nothing to be gained by installing this old stuff if you really want HP SIM. You will not learn anything of value going through that step and will not be able to 'upgrade' -- when you move to HP SIM you will start all over.

Regarding MSDE, I am confused because CIM32 never used it; the embedded database was based on Borland Paradox.

Whatever it is you're installing, MSDE must co-reside on the system with the management app. If you require the DB to be hosted elsewhere, you must use MS SQL2000 or Oracle.

Re: Compaq Management software

Can I place HP Sim on a non-hp/compaq server? I have older servers and the HP Sim software eats up processor time. I am hoping to host the software on a Dell box.

Re: Compaq Management software

HP SIM is licensed to run on HP hardware but there is no technical reason why it can't be hosted on another vendor's hardware; however, please be aware that assistance from technical support will be limited to basic troubleshooting if HP SIM is installed on a non-HP platform. Please be aware of the minimum configuration for hosting as stated in the HP SIM QuickSpecs. http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim --> Worldwide QuickSpecs (HTML)

Re: Compaq Management software

John,

I run a test instance of SIM in vmware. This is essentially non HP hardware. There is no PSP installed on the server. I have had no issues with this configuration in test.
