Configuring pager alert

We use Systems Insight Manager 4.2 for Windows and try to configure alerting via pager/analog modem. We try to address a cell phone.
What happens?
If the alert appears the modem hangs up, but it doesn´t dial.
Is there any documentation available which describes where I can configure the modem options (not only the port).

Re: Configuring pager alert

You might want to try using the Custom Command Approach.
Script something that talks to the modem and then develop it to use variables passed from HPSIM.
I don't think you'll get much help on configuring a modem in this forum.
You would need to at least provide details of OS, Hardware, modem etc.

But if I use a hyperterminal the modem works fine.
HPSIM instead only triggers the modem to go up (We can hear it in the modem speaker)
Then I think it waits for a dialtone. But we have stored in the modem settings not to wait for a dialtone.
Is there a way to simulate/debugg an alert via modem from the browser or with a tool?
How could "Custom Command Approach" help us?

Re: Configuring pager alert

Not sure what you mean by "We try to address a cell phone."? Are you trying to send the page to a cell phone? If so, then set the modem com port under options, events, automatic event handling, modem settings. Then configure the events to page under options, events, automatic event handling, new task. (Choose send e-mail in the "select actions" section.) The modem itself gets configured in options, security, users and authorizations. Select the users tab and create or edit a users pager information. The phone number field is the phone number of a "paging modem" at your cell phone service provider. (Mine is Verizon and I just called their customer service and got a local modem phone number.) The PIN number field is the number of the pager device. This is how I got it to work for me. Hope it helps you out. There is no documentation on this anywhere.

Re: Configuring pager alert

Anyone knows how to setup for Sprint? I called their tech support and asked for paging modem number and they didn't know what I'm talking about.

Thanks.

Re: Configuring pager alert

I just solved this problem yesterday.

I found out that The SIM 4.2 software is designed to use the TAP protocol (which I believe is what is used when sending text messages between cell phones). To use the TAP protocol, you need to know the correct access number for your cellular/pager provider. There is a great database of numbers at http://www.notepage.net/tap-phone-numbers-a.htm.

Once you find the correct number for your service provider, enter this as the phone number and your phone/pager number as the PIN number.

I tested this yesterday with a Cingular phone and it worked great. Although AT&T is listed in the database, it doesn't work with my AT&T phone. Looks like it's time to renew my contract and get a Cingular phone!

I also found out from HP tech. support that HP SIM v. 4.2 doesn't support numeric pagers. Only alphanumeric pagers are supported.

Hope this helps!

The link I entered yesterday doesn't work. This should get you to the correct page.
