Custom Data Collection
Hello,
I'm wondering if it's possible to customize the data collection HP SIM does.
I'm trying to monitor some UPS devices directly with HP-SIM, which actually works quite well after loading the "UPS-MIB" and "CPQPOWER.MIB" files into SIM. Traps are no problem.
I have also added the UPS devices to HP SIM using Manage System Types, but the amount of information in the "System" tab of the UPS in SIM is a bit lacking.
Now I only see the product name, sys. location and some basic network information. I'd like to be able to see the product number and serial numbers too.
I'm now using a custom script to read these values from the UPS using SNMP, but I'd like HP SIM to do that for me and store the data in it's database so I can access the data while running reports and so on.
In short, is it possible to customize the amount and type of data the data collection job collects?

Re: Custom Data Collection
HP SIM doesn't "walk the MIB" of devices for data collection and what you're trying to do is outside the scope of HP SIM. Your workaround is probably the best method.

Re: Custom Data Collection
Thank you for your reply, I hope my question was clear enough.
If I understand correctly, SIM can only receive traps from a custom device and not collect user defined data like serial numbers and such?
