Custom List

Custom List

Is it possible to create a list of management processors (RILO cards - any type) with a specific firmware version? If so, could you list the proper Search list? This is an example of one I've tried, but doesn't seem to list anything though it should - I have both types in Windows 2000 servers:

Where Software/Firmware
system type is: server
and OS is W2K
and name is: RILOEII
and version is equal to: Any

Where Software/Firmware
system type is: server
and OS is W2K
and name is: RILOE
and version is equal to: Any

Re: Custom List

Not easily!
The best I can see is to restrict the search to Management processors and then select the Installed Controllers section.
This will list the LO Boards and the firmware version. Unfortunately it will list all the other boards.
You might be able to create a better query using MSQuery and accessing the HPSIM database directly.

Re: Custom List

Thanks for your reply Rob, however it's a little unclear to me what you meant. You used the term "search" - I assume that meant limit the list to include Management Processors. However its a little unclear what you meant by "Installed Controllers". I don't see that as part of any list option. Could you explain?

Re: Custom List

Maybe I'd made a wrong assumption.
Are you doing this from the Reports Section of HPSIM?
If so, You can select Management Processors as the selection criteria for the targets.

Further on in the selection for the report you select Installed Controllers as the selection criteria for the report.

Unfortunately this lists all of the Installed controllers but seems to restrict it to the Servers with various LO Cards.

Re: Custom List

Oh, I never thought of a report. I was speaking about an actual list. I was thinking I had to create a custom list - in my Favorites for example...but I never thought about running a Report.

Re: Custom List

Try this out. Create a list with the following query

Search for Systems

where system type is management processor
and software/firmware
system type is server
and operating system is
and software/firmware type is Driver- Lights out Management
and name is is
and version is (any)

Re: Custom List

Close, but no dice. If I include the System Type=Management Processor, I don't get anything. If I remove it, I just get the list of servers with the RIB driver version.

Re: Custom List

Scott,
On the HPSIM home page are any of the LO IP Addresses discovered and listed as Management Processors as a System Type?

Even selecting all Servers and Installed Controllers as the Criteria will give you the Lights Out details.
Unfortunately you need to select both Board Name and Board Model to be able to see what the various boards are. But if you then Sort the Report by Board Name you can identify the Remote & Integrated Lights Out.
All done from the HPSIM Reports option. You can export the details to CSV and play around with that.
I quickly got a list of firmware on all of the LO Boards that way.

Re: Custom List

As a matter of fact...the first entry in the list is an MP with an IP address. Does that indicate something?

Yes, I can pull the same report, which is an OK way to do it. I was hoping I could push firmware updates right from a custom list. For example, one list would allow me to push all outdated, W2K, RILOEII firmware updates instead of having to generate a seperate, external report. But if that's what I gotta do, then that's what I gotta do...

Re: Custom List

I think what you're trying to do is not possible.
From the Systems Lists, expand systems List and then Systems by Type. You can select Management Processors from here. This should list all Management Processors.
But the problem here is that you don't actually deploy the Firmware to the Management Processor, you deploy via the VCA on the Server with the Management Processor.
Here we use the LO's only for the Remote Sites, so the vast majority are not connected to the Network. So they do not show up as MPs.
To do what you're trying to do I'd need to set up a new System List and use that. Possibly selecting by Server Type for the ILO's and then manually adding Servers with RILOE's.
