Data Collection Not Working

Data Collection Not Working

Hi,

When I launch data collection for a particular server it states "the device does not have any supported instrumentation" under the message error run time within SIM. I cannot seem to get data from any and/or all servers can anyone lead me in the right direction?

Thanks.

P.S. Error through the alert system.

The target system may not be running a supported instrumentation protocol, such as SNMP, WBEM or DMI.

Re: Data Collection Not Working

Les it definately sounds like the agents aren't running on the managed servers - either that or the community string isn't setup right.

Make sure you have installed SNMP + the latest ProLiant Support Pack (PSP) on the managed servers.

Once that is done, run the 'Configure or Repair Agents...' task from within HPSIM agains the servers that aren't showing up right - it will setup the SNMP community strings and agent trust relationship so that the HPSIM server can manage the hosts. At that point, all should be good.
Dude, we've been totally misled by our album covers!

Re: Data Collection Not Working

Scott,
I have the same issue as Les, but my agents are setup properly, using SNMP, WBEM HTTP et al. They are trusted and the community strings are verified to be correct. When i run a Data Collection task, i get some of the messages Les is getting..

(My issue started when we looked at searching for software/hardware and i have nothing to report, same when i look for harddrives and or other systems, out of 129 systems in the data collection, only 10 or so show any data collected (other then name, ip, sn#))..

Re: Data Collection Not Working

I have the same error. Previously I had 100% of my servers working fine, but now I have only about 30% working. I have noticed that the ones working are all in the same subnet as my HPSIM server and all the ones that are not working are in various other subnets. The SNMP configurations are all identical and I have repaired the agents. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re: Data Collection Not Working

This seems a common problem across varying Windows servers (2000/2003 SP1 or not), SNMP is set up correctly and yet Insight Manager does not show the OS or other details.
I have found several post on here and the only response they get is "check your snmp settings" which everyone does and still has the problems.
Is there an official HP anser to this problem? Or is it a bug no one can confirm or admit to?

Re: Data Collection Not Working

Through working out this issue, i have found that the server being queried refuses the request with an Authentication error. I am not 100% sure why, as i SNMPWALK the server with the appropriate community string. Some work, some dont. Same segment, same server OS, same agent version (7.40a), same SNMP config.. See my other thread, where i try and keep at it, but i am stumped at this point. I wish HP would jump in and figure this out..

Re: Data Collection Not Working

I had the same error on several servers. These servers had the wrong SNMP Security setting 'Accept SNMP packets from these hosts' (127.0.0.1). Try by changing the setting to 'Accept SNMP packets from any host'
