Because of our non-existant DNS infrastructure, I am having a lot of problems naming servers within HP SIM.
I have created a host file within HP SIM adding servers as well as snmp settings etc, however when the devices are added from the host file, the server names do not appear in HP SIM.
Do I also need a host file setup in the OS?
What about if the DNS server has a forward lookup entry but not a reverse lookup entry?
Can someone supply me with an example of a HP SIM host file so I can check my syntax?

Re: Device names in HP SIM
About hosts file:
I create OS hosts file. In the automatic discovery page where are the settings for hosts file enter a name and in the section Initialize contents with: select Systems loaded from hosts file and browse the OS hosts file, click Initialize Now and then ok.
Then on Manual Discovery - Hosts files page select file with my name and click Add Systems Now.
The name of servers appear in HPSIM.
I think that DNS server need also reverse lookup entry.
I.

Re: Device names in HP SIM
"You can import Hosts files from the following sources:
1) The HP Systems Insight Manager database, which imports the system data, creates a Hosts file, and sorts the data types according to your selection
2) Another system that has an existing Hosts file.
To access the Manual Discovery - Hosts File page click host files in the IP Address Ranges section on the Automatic Discovery - General Settings page."

Re: Device names in HP SIM
I am in the process of creating a hosts file for all the servers that don't resolve properly.
