Re: does HP SIM and SNMP

HP SIM does not use or require a write community string with managed nodes. However,

- the HP SIM server needs to have a READ/CREATE community string present so that the "SNMP Trap Service" can post events it receives to the "SNMP Service."

- the agents on managed nodes use SNMP to communicate among themselves, so the presence of a READ/WRITE string is required. The lack of a R/W string will result in errors when trying to apply thresholds or even during VCA update tasks (the erroneous message is "there is not enough space to perform this task").

Best practice is to define a write (or create for that matter) string that is different from your read string. Since that string is not used for any wire communications it won't be able to be sniffed.

Re: does HP SIM and SNMP

On the SNMP, I like to know what to set/best practise on the

1) SIM server and the
2) Managed Nodes.

I have read thru the thread, but seem confusing.

Thanks.
