Drill Down to HP Agent

I am running HP SIM 41. with SP1.
I have discovered my HP devices and wish to drill down to component level of each device.
I have number of DL360/320 and aware I need to install the Agent on a per machine basis. I also have a number of DL140s'. The required user "wbemuser" has been set on thr SIM and a use created on the AD. As a test I also have configured a "wbemuser" on a single DL140 to see if I can "drill " down to component level of that machine. I seem unable to perform this task. Is there a paper on the steps required to perform this task ?

Re: Drill Down to HP Agent

There's really no magic or secret. Things to check on and confirm:

- Presence of the WMI Mapper and a pointer to it within HP SIM
- Make sure you are not using the "_" underscore character in host names. It isn't a valid DNS character according the the ICANN spec and it "breaks" the WMI mapper
- Check to see if WBEM has been a discovered protocol on the device (it's shown on the device page)

Additionally, since no agent is involved, the detailed information that HP SIM collects won't be reflected as a link to an agent. Find the WMI information under the "Properties" link on the links tab for the device.

David, I thought the DL1xx series didn't have Web Agents. Can you still drill down on these via the WBEM interface?

Re: Drill Down to HP Agent

You are correct. The 'Properties' link pops up a webpage served by HP SIM populated with the properties it has collected by WBEM/WMI. That's why I mentioned there was no agent involved. Some folks miss the 'Properties' link because they're expecting to get something in the other section.

Re: Drill Down to HP Agent

I would be grateful if you could direct me as to which menu option the WMI Mapper is configured...I have been into Option, Protocol Settings, WMI Mapper Proxy .... and where exactly the WBEM protocol can be seen. On the DL 140 discovered devices under Links Tab I have no "Properties" Link.

It seems I need to configure a Local account for the "wbemuser" account, but seems not to make a difference

Host names are fine.
