Email flooding

Hello,
I had SIM 4.1 = email flooding
Upgraded to SIM 4.2 = email flooding

By email flooding, I mean we are getting old Alerts from last summer. I havent been able to nail down what triggers the old alerts to be delivered. Anyway, it was over 23,000 and counting tonight before I shut down the server.

I see some other threads out there about this, seems a lot of people are having this problem.

Any solution on the way?

Re: Email flooding

I have the same issue, there was a fix for 4.1 which envolved replacing a .jar file. I assumed this was rolled up in 4.2, but it doesn't appear to be the case. does anyone know if the 4.1 fix works in 4.2?

Re: Email flooding

Hi...

I have exactly the same problem...
I've installed SP SIM 4.1 with SP1 and for almost of my 500 servers/workstations i'm getting e-mail notifications from last year...

I'm getting crazy with this situation...

If someone have a solution for this...

THX!!

Re: Email flooding

I went from 4.0 to 4.2. I had the problem in 4.0 and expected as everyone else did for the patch for 4.1 to be included in 4.2. I opened a case. They said all my events weren't cleared. I ensured every single event was cleared. And then it happened in 4.2.

HP - this has been a problem since 4.0. I have opened at least 2 cases on this issue. It has been reported multiple times in this arena. Yet the problem still remains in 4.2. When can we expect a solution?

Re: Email flooding

I can confirm, in the readme notes for 4.2 SP1, the mass mailing issue has been addressed. out of interest it contains the a replacement for the same .jar file that was an issue the 4.1. this fix is allegedly for autodiscovery events causing mailing of all uncleared events.

Re: Email flooding

I can confirm as well. I did not know SP1 for 4.2 was out there and after Christian pointed it out, I installed it and so far so good. No email floods. Hopefully it stays that way.
Thanks everyone.

Re: Email flooding

Well, I got news for all of you...

I have applied 4.2 SP1 and I *STILL* have email flooding. I picked up over 4200 of them over the weekend.

It would be very nice to get to the bottom of this and eliminate the problem once and for all.

My environment:

Windows 2000 server upgraded in place to Windows 2003 server
CIM 7 (multiple upgrades) to HP SIM 4.1 to 4.2 to 4.2 SP1.

---

I'm getting to the point of trashing everything and reloading from scratch...

Re: Email flooding

In past versions, when the database server is running at capacity, SIM/CIM will flood the messages. Do you have performance issues with you DB Server?

Re: Email flooding

Probably Dan Withe is near the "Holy Grail"... I thought a lot in what he wrote, and went to investigate the conditions of my "e-mail flooding"... and i've reached the conclution that it happened when my data base got a huge size of disc occupation!

Could it be a coincidence?? Or there is in fact a connection in this?

Sorry... it's not "Dan Withe" but "Dan White"... :\

Re: Email flooding

Any recent news on this? I have 4.2 SP1 and got flooded last week, it actually impacted several other production servers that rely on messaging. It also got my company on a blacklist from Cingular Cell service for flooding via text message alerts. I never had the problem until I upgraded from MSDE to SQL 2000 SP4.

Any new information would be great. My HP consultant says he doesn't know anything about this. Ugggggh.

Re: Email flooding

Believe it or not, there was still a problem in 4.2 SP1. Since I went to 4.2 SP2 I have not have the problem.

See the readme here:

Download here:

I also noticed they have version HP SIM 5.0 out now.

Re: Email flooding

Thanks!

I'll try the new patch. As for going to 5.0, that could be a career terminating move for me! Ha ha ha. Downed Exchange servers tend to get the attention of the Execs pretty darn quick.

I'll reply after applying the fix.
