The following symptoms are happening on some (but not all) servers:
- Server is discovered, Managed System Setup Wizard has run etc. All complete without any errors.
- I can click on the various headings (HS, MP) and because the systems trust each other the relevent angents launch without having to go through another sign-on process.
- Version Control Agent: if I access the VCA through the "Tools & Links" screen then, as mentioned previously, the tool launches and I access the VCA without an additional sign-on
- However, if I try to access the VCA via the "SW" icon, or from the System Status/Health Status screen then I get the following error message:
"Error communicating with Version Control Agent
There was an HTTP error with the Version Control Agent (VCA) on this system. In slower environments this could be because HTTP requests are timing out. To correct this run the command
mxglobalsettings -ld http_request_timeout
This will return the current HTTP timeout value, in seconds (the default is 15). Increase the setting using
mxglobalsettings -s http_request_timeout=x
where 'x' is the new timeout value. Note that adjusting this setting will affect HP SIM performance and should be used carefully."
Is there a of telling the CMS that there is no communication problem?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Phil

SolutionI had a similar problem and it was down to the SNMP settings, i hadn't updated SNMP to show the new HPSIM server (recently moved it from server to another)

Re: Error communicating with Version Control Agent
The strange thing is, if I run an inventory once from within System Management Homepage using the alias /vcagent and do a manual "Software version Status Polling", VCA gets "green" within the System Status Health page and by clicking on the symbol the VC agent page is displayed correctly. Afterwards on the SMH the VC Agent is displayed which was completely missing before.
But after the next automatically scheduled "Software Version Status polling", the status gets back to the "System Communication error".
Checking Configure -> Manage Communications for a server that has that problem says everything is okay.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Error communicating with Version Control Agent
use replicate agent settings to apply the settings to multiple SMH in network.

Re: Error communicating with Version Control Agent
http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/dl_windows52sp2.html
And now, after upgrading from 5.2 to 6.2, the VCAgent on every single node is shown with an "i" symbol for the software status in the system list after the automatic Software Version Status Poll had been running last night.
But alarms are being generated correctly by the VCAgent, it seems like just the display in the system list is broken (again).
