Error installing HPSIM on Win XP Pro SP2

am installing the HPSIM trial package on Windows XP Pro SP2 nd when it gets to the point where is needs to authenticate with the SQL database (MSDE DB) I get the following error:

03-24-2006][15:35:40][HP Systems Insight Manager]Error:An unknown database error has occurred. 1

This doesn't really help me with what the probelm is. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Phil

Maybe a dumb question, but have you installed the MSDE beforehand?

The MSDE was installed as the first step in the HPSIM installation.
