Fancy reports in SIM?

Hi there,

I've got SIM up and running and reporting on 100+ HP servers. However, I find the reports it produces really ugly and difficult to read. We have a requirement to produce reports for a customer, and I can't give them these.

Does anyone know of any scripts/add-ons/tools I can use to produce fancy reports in SIM? Maybe nice reports with pie-charts etc.?

We don't mind paying for this, I just need to know who to speak to... I can't see anything relevant on the web.

Thanks
- Eric.

Re: Fancy reports in SIM?

The database schema is documented in the online help and also in the "HP SIM 5.2 Technical Reference Guide" available from http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim --> Information Library. Check out the "report" tables that begin with an "R" as these are not highly normalized for database efficiency and are more easily decoded by humans. You can make an ODBC connection to the database with the report writer of your choice to make your "fancy reports."

Re: Fancy reports in SIM?

Thanks for the info, but not sure I have the experience or time to fiddle with that.
Are there any commercially available tools that have been created to do this for me?

Hi Eric,

What you could do is export the report to a .csv file and open the .csv with Excel and jazz it up with a better look.

Excel 2007 has the Styles section with some features that may help to easily add a pleasing pre-set look to the report.

Re: Fancy reports in SIM?

I don't know of any tools targeted at HPSIM reporting.
You can get Enterprise reporting tools , but they tend to be expensive and you need the skills to use them. You could look at something like Crystal Reports, now owned by Business Objects
