Hardware related e-mails not received.

I am using SIM 5.0 SP4. I am not receiving e-mails when a piece of hardware fails on a server.

The test that i have performed is. One of my servers has two power supplies When I unplug one of them SIM displays that the server has changed to Major in the health status but i do not receive an e-mail informing me of the problem.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong or at least point me in the right direction?

Re: Hardware related e-mails not received.

The agent on the server with the failed power supply uses the SNMP service to send a trap to the HPSIM Server.
In SNMP configure the Trap destination to be the HPSIM Server and set up a correct community name to use.
You can test this by going to Control Panel and using the HP Management Agents GUI to send an SNMP Trap. You should get a major Event generated in HPSIM.

Re: Hardware related e-mails not received.

I tried sending the trap and I have received nothing on my SIM server.

SNMP is set to send traps to the SIM server. I checked the community names and they are correct.

The SIM server also has the SNMP community names setup and is configured to receive traps from any host.

Any other ideas?

Re: Hardware related e-mails not received.

You can get hold of one of the free SNMP Listeners and run that on the HPSIM Server and test again. That would check whether the issue is on the HPSIM Server or traps are not making it.
If SNMP is configured correctly there must be something else in your infrastructure that is preventing SNMP from getting through e.g firewalls etc.
The SNMP trap Send from the GUI definately works here.
Just a note, SNMP community names are case-sensitive.

Re: Hardware related e-mails not received.

Using a Trap Listener I can see that the SIM server is receiving traps when events happen. I pulled one of the power cords from the test client and received the following two traps.

enterprises .1.3.6.1.4.1.232 10.215.96.85 18 hours, 7 minutes, 42 seconds. Thu Sep 14 10:06:10 EDT 2006 sysName: HQ-WEBSVR-2

Are these good or bad I do not know? Do I not have something loaded correctly on the SIM server that can understand the traps? I am thouroughly confused at this point.

Re: Hardware related e-mails not received.

Hi,

In your SNMP Properties under Agent tab do you have for the service section also PHYSICAL selected?

Also do you have the latest MIBS installed.

Re: Hardware related e-mails not received.

I do have physical selected.

How do I know if the latest MIBS are installed and where do I get them if I do not.

Re: Hardware related e-mails not received.

You should find the latest MIBs at the below link.

Re: Hardware related e-mails not received.

Hope you have no other applications installed on the CMS that consumes SNMP traps. Also make sure that you haven't enabled trap filter settings in SIM.

Re: Hardware related e-mails not received.

The problem was another program that was running was intercepting the traps
