Help Understanding FAQ
This is taken from the technical FAQ, I just don't get it...
Under Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000, one community name on the device must be set to READ CREATE. Note that you do not have to use this to the community string in HP Systems Insight Manager (a community string set to READ is all that is required.) The Management Agents connect to themselves using SNMP and require one string set to READ CREATE.
Does this mean on the managed system all you need are 2 community strings, a READ and READ CREATE. Then all you need to configure the SIM server for is the common READ communtiy. The READ CREATE community can be different for every managed server? And the READ CREATE community on the managed system only sends and recieves requests from localhost?
Thanks,,

Re: Help Understanding FAQ
A bit vague isn't it!
For HPSIM to gather info. i.e. device identification etc. it needs a Read Only SNMP Community Name.
For you to be able to connect via the Insight Manager agents and adjust threshold bars, clear IM logs etc. there needs to be a Read/Write Community name. Not sire why Read/Create is used, you can get by with Read/Write.
On W2003 Servers, the default SNMP Settings are Allow Selected Hosts, you need to add Localhost and the IP or Name of the HPSIM Server or just Select Allow All Hosts.
