HP SIM 5.3 functionality
Hi,
We have more than 1500 HP machines and many of them are ESX hosts used for VMWare. i have no idea if HP SIM agents are installed on all h/w.
Do HP SIM 5.3 really required that on client mchine we should have agents running? even on ESX hosts?
Also, tu run discovery, i have to exclude all VMs from discovery, is it possible? Can i include VMs running under ESX in the monitoring?
please let me know as i have to start installing/configuring this ASAP

Re: HP SIM 5.3 functionality
HP SIM5.3 is a central management software which you need to install on One Server/system by which you can manage your all systems(called managed nodes) and the Node where u install HPSIM will be called CMS(Central management Server).
Now using this CMS u can manage all your nodes including VMs/ESX/GSX/Hypervisor/XEN/other too.
Discovery is not a problem but if you wanna manage(create, stop, snapshot, move) VMs using HP SIM then you will need HP VMM(HP Virtual machine management).
Now about other managed nodes(including ESX) you need to have management agent installed on all to manage in HP SIM.
in breif:
1. you need one HPSIM installed
2. need to install management agent on all managed nodes.
for this go to: http://www.hp.com/#Support
give ur hp machine name (e.g DL380 g2 or bl480c) and then select you OS(installed on that machine becoz agents differs by OS) then in software click on support pack 9its bundle of agents required) latest available is 8.15.
3. if you wanna manage ur VMs also try HP VMM below:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantessentials/valuepack/vms/index.html
For all related product including all above best you go below
http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/
Hope this helps!
