HP SIM 7.4 - iLO2 Identification
Hello,
I'm running the latest version of HP SIM (7.4)
I have several servers with an iLO2 chip. The server itself identifies correctly - but the iLO2 chip does not.
It says it cannot be identified but it does not say any other errors signifiying why it could not be identified.
Results:
********* Significant issues and overall target discovery/identification
status:
Minor: The name of the system could not be resolved to a fully qualified
domain name. For a Windows CMS, make sure that the domain name of
the managed system is included in the DNS suffixes in the Windows
Advanced TCP/IP Settings page.
Minor: The reverse DNS lookup using the IP address: 192.168.32.11 failed.
It might be that the nslookup timed out or DNS server cannot find
this address, or that the domain does not exist.
Minor: Verify that your name resolution service or the host file
configuration is configured properly so that your system's hostname
can be resolved to the fully qualified domain name.
Major: The system cannot be identified properly for HP SIM to manage;
unable to get one or more of the following: model, serial number or
unique identifier (UUID). For management processors, verify the
system is running the latest firmware. For Linux based operating
systems, you must have dmidecode installed, enable the
PermitRootLogin and PasswordAuthentication in sshd, and use root
sign-in credential. For HP-UX, verify the sign-in credential. For
Windows, check if WMIMapper is configured correctly on the CMS and
verify the sign-in credential.
if anyone knows anything, I'd appreciate the help. It appears that storage information on the server are not detectable until the ILO can be identified properly.

Re: HP SIM 7.4 - iLO2 Identification
What is the firmware version of your ILO? And is the ILO in the same netwerk so you can scan ports 80 and 161?
That should be enough for the discovery,
Andrew

Re: HP SIM 7.4 - iLO2 Identification
Firmware is latest - just updated it recently.
Networking is not an issue - It's reachable - but it throws that SNMP error in the discovery logs.
Thanks

Re: HP SIM 7.4 - iLO2 Identification
Hi,
Is this issue resolved? I am experience something similar as it seems the latest versions of SIM cannot ID iLO2 at all due to the lack of a responding SNMP Agent.

Re: HP SIM 7.4 - iLO2 Identification
I've just updated my SIm 7.4 setup to the latest hotfix found here : http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04271436
When i first identified my ILO i got the same error but with the hotfix in place the identification looked fine :
********* Significant issues and overall target discovery/identification
status:
Normal: The system has valid hardware data (model, serial number, and
unique identifier) and has been identified properly for SIM to
manage.
Normal: System(s) have been successfully identified.
********* Additional results (listed for information only):
* Starting identification process...
* Checking for known running web servers...
* Checking for SNMP protocol support on system...
Normal: The system responded to an SNMP request; it supports SNMP Protocol
and has a valid read community string.
Did you add the Public with a capital P ?
Andrew
