I wanted to implement the new HP SIM v5 sp5 however I wanted to ensure new agent compatibility with some of our older proliant servers.
Our oldest agent is 5.40.0.0 but we would want this to be 7.60.0.0 so that we can utilise the newer monitoring features.
Comments pls.
Thanks,
-Pritesh

Re: HP SIM Agent Versions
What is the model of the old servers that you have?
Here is the support matrix for the Smartstart which is compatible with the appropriate servers:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com:80/support/files/server/us/cd_supportinfo/ServerSupportMatrix.pdf
There are some pre-requisites for installing the HP SIM SP5 on the server.

Re: HP SIM Agent Versions
Thanks for that document... it was helpful.
Is there a document for the firmware compatibility as well... some of our older servers are Proliant 1600/3000's... just want to know which servers we will need a firmware update on and if we can even bring these up to v7.60?
Thanks

SolutionAs per the previous document for the Smartstart CD matrix, the Smartstart CD contains the PSPs for the server which is nothing but the firmwares for the hardware components of the server.
Here is the link for the supported server for PSP 7.60:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24184.html
Scoll Down to check the compatible server.
Also check the revision history from the below link and find out the appropriate PSP version for the servers:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/revision/3376.html
Hope this answers!!!

Re: HP SIM Agent Versions
1. The two urls you gave only mention Windows Server 2003. Do you know if the same docs apply to Windows 2000 Server?
2. I am having trouble with a Proliant ML530 G1. The agents don't want to load or talk to my SIM server. Is there some specific steps needed to install v7.60 on this old server?
3. My SIM server is having trouble with the auto download of the psp v7.60. How can I get this psp into my SIM server?
Thanks so much!

You can select the OS Version from here.
I'm running PSP 7.60 on a number of older servers including a Proliant 1600. The main restriction is the OS, e.g. NT4 stops at 6.40.
There's a Firmware CD you can download that does the work for you.
Regarding the PSP, just pull it down from the site above and copy it into the Repository directory.

Re: HP SIM Agent Versions
You might test on several of your severs updating to 7.60. I found when I was updating from the 5.40 that I had to go to 6.40 and then 7.0. And now I have just found today during an onsite HP engagement that in order to get my servers to 7.60 I will have to fo from 7.0 to 7.2 or 7.3 then 7.60. We are going to test the 7.2/7.3 tomorrow. But going from 7.0 to 7.60 leaves an old version of the agents on the server and the agents are not working correctly. Today in our test we had the old version of the foundation agent and the new hp insight management agents still on the server. Also going from the large jumps I'd had the servers drop off the network. Then you have to remove the nic reboot and then reconfigure it. So this is what we're experiencing in our environment.
