HP Sim & Netservers
Hi
I have seen the earlier threads realting to HPsim & netservers however I have one L3000 server which was previously running an earlier version of insight manager that can be seen and managed by the new HPSIM server the same as any other of the newer servers. However their are other L3000 servers running nt4 where I cant install the proliant support pack but they have toptools 5.5 installed. The servers with toptools installed display the informational symbol saying the vca is not found.
The docs say the LH3000 devices can be managed the same as newer devices presumably this means by toptools? I dont understand why one machine can use the proliant pack where other servers of the same type have to use toptools.

Re: HP Sim & Netservers
HI
Hpsim can manage Netservers when those have snmp and the toptools agents + instant toptools installed. The latest version of these agents are 5.5 : here : http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=19611&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50440〈=en&cc=us&swEnvOID=24
Netservers are not compatible with PSP (ProLiant Support Pack) A proliant server is way different from a netserver. An insight agent could not run on a netserver. It is the same thing for the VCA. The VCA only works with ProLiant servers, Netservers agents or firmware are no longer developped so there is no need for further updates of the systems (considering they shoud be up to date now.)
HPSIM will provide some fault management features for Netservers(The HW column). In case of hardware issue, you can drill down to the instant toptools web page (similar to the proliant web agent ; system management homepage) Automatic discovery will also work for them. Inventory and reporting are also working for the Netservers. If your LH3000 contains a TTRC (toptools remote control card) it should appear in the MP column same line as the server.
regards
frederic
What are these systems you are referring to as L3000 ?
