HP SIM and unknown software status

Hi there,

I´m using HP-SIM 4.2 on a win2k server cms.
The system is showing a wrong software status
for managed nodes. It says, I should run an
software status polling, but nothing changes.

settings on the version control agent (psp 7.20):
- trustmode: trust all (for testing)
- trusted servers: imported certificate hp-sim-server
- snmp-settings done

closed by the collection report about software
status

Any suggestions?

Regards

Re: HP SIM and unknown software status

The VCA / VCRM relationship does not use the Trust Relationship.
With the 7.20A release you need to change the credentials.
Easiest way:
Set up a local Admin account on the VCRM Server.
Configure VCA on a remote Server to use that account and password. If that looks okay you can use HPSIm to replicate the settings to other VCA's. And run the Software Polling task to get HPSIM's icons updated.

Re: HP SIM and unknown software status

I'm having hte same issues.

I have the new 7.20A agents loaded.

I created a new Admin account on my CMS for VCRM alone.

And made all other remot VCA agents connect via that acccount/pssd.

Everything seems fine, but the status icons are still 'i' on my all systems list.

When i click on it, nothing happens. No pop up box or anything.

Re: HP SIM and unknown software status

an admin-account is still created. I´ve
configured the vc-agent with these
credentials (admin-account) and the connect
vca <-> vc-manager is successful.

Guenther,

are you getting 'i' icons in your SF column for your servers?

Hi,

yes, look at the attachement in my response
above... I´m testing it now with settings
replication. Hope it works.

Re: HP SIM and unknown software status

In HP-SIM 4.2, click on Options->Version Control Repository. Select the discovered VCRM system and click on OK button. Now Run Software Status Polling task. It should update the Software Status of the managed nodes.

Re: HP SIM and unknown software status

Hi,

did it, but no change...
On the system page --> Status there
is no entry "software status". Why?
I can see this entry on my hp-sim-server
only...

Re: HP SIM and unknown software status

I'm confused by what you see on the System Management Homepage, and specifically, the Version Control Agent (VCA) home for any of the systems that show an unknown status in SIM. Is the status unknown also at the VCA page? (Screenshots?)

Re: HP SIM and unknown software status

What screen do you get if you click on the "i" icon in the SW Column?
What do you see if you mouse of the "i" Icon in the SW Column.

If you can browse to the VCA Page on a remote Server, e.g. browse to https://Servername:2381/vcagent
What do you get? If after logging in you get a correctly displayed VCA Page then check if the Software Polling Task ran recently, in HPSIM go to the Logs > View All Scheduled Tasks there should be a Software Version Status Polling task. You can just run it, it is this task that updates the icons in the HPSIM display, they're not dynamic.
I notice in the attached image you have a green SW Icon, you could try replicating the settings from this Server to another and retest.

Re: HP SIM and unknown software status

Hi,

to keith rogers:

closed by the screenshots from a vca.
The software-status is unknown on the
hpsim-serverscreen (sorted by win2k).
If I go to the system-page of this server
in hp-sim, --> Identity --> Status
Information, there´s no Software Status
listed. I do not understand why...
It works only on the hp-sim-server himself.

to Rob Buxton:

>What screen do you get if you click on the >"i" icon in the SW Column?

no screen...

>What do you see if you mouse of the "i" Icon >in the SW Column.

"Software Version Status: Run Version Status
Polling. Click for details"

The software status on the vca is o.k. (see
attachement), I can log in.

I have tried to run the polling task, like
you described, but no change.

I have replicated the settings from
klipanthps to klipantas, run the polling
task again, but no change.

Another question: to configure the vc-
repository-server in the vca settings
should I take the hostname, ip-address
or a full dns-name there?

Re: HP SIM and unknown software status

Hello Guenther,

THis is how you fix the "i" issue with the SF column in SIM.

I am assuming that SIM sometimes doesn't synchronize with VCA's for some reason.

Go to Deploy ---> Install Software, Firmware

or whatever that menu is.

Redeploy the VCA agents onto those servers that show the "i".

once you do that, it will say the agents are already installed.

Do another Software Status Polling task.

SF columns should show real status icons now instead of the "i".

Please reply back if this solves your problem.

It solved it for me.
