HP Sim Neebie

I am new to this tool and would just like to ask a question or 2.

From a server mgmt perspective where is this tool lacking and where is it's strong points.

Also, can I use this on servers that are not HP/Compact or on CLient workstations. If so will I get any useful info from WMI/WBEM.

Also, do the target servers have to have snmp running as a service on them to be "managed"?

Some of my HP servers showw as managed others do not.

To answer one of your questions, yes you do need SNMP running on your target servers.

You need to check community strings are set up, especially if you want to do configuration changes, you will need to ensure SNMP is set to read / write. Be careful though there is security implications to SNMP being open.

I have it as read/write on my cms server. Does it need to be on my targets as well?

Yes, you need at least read on all of your clients, write if you want to set thresholds etc.
