HP SIM NetWare Support

Hey Guys,

We are looking to upgrade our Compaq Insight manager 5.20 to HP SIM 4.2

Unfortunatly we are having great difficulty configuring our NetWare servers to talk to The SIM server.

I'm confused as HP are a Novell Partner but it seems support has been dropped for managing NetWare servers running HP Agents.

Can someone clarify that this is the case and maybe advise if/when NetWare will be supported ?

Cheers

Re: HP SIM NetWare Support

Can you be more specific? SNMP management between NetWare servers and HP SIM is fully supported.

Re: HP SIM NetWare Support

I can't speak for Steward, but things that I have noticed that are missing include:

1) No version control process for Netware like there is for Windows (and Linux?)

2) No Trust Relationship between the SIM console and agents running on the Netware servers (prompted to login each time you connect to the web agent on a Netware server).

3) No remote deployment process for distributing updated agents/drivers to NetWare servers (tied to the version control process I guess)

4) The new Web Agent 2.0 works on Windows servers but there is nothing for Netware.

Please correct me if I am wrong about any of the above - I have not investigated this completely so maybe they do exist.

Re: HP SIM NetWare Support

Nelson: You are correct with all of the features mentioned. However, those are not features that ever were available with CIM 5.5 and earlier. The same functionality is possible with HP SIM as was available in the past.

With Novell Open Enterprise Server taking the place of NetWare, all of the features you mention will become available from HP SIM through its support of SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.

Re: HP SIM NetWare Support

Thanks for your Info guys,

After some more testing we found that SIM seems a bit Flakey, Certain actions have to be carried out in a specific sequence otherwise menus disappear. I beleive we should have enough (just SNMP monitoring) to keep us happy.
Thanks for your input.
