HP SIM no longer loads

I have the HP SIM app installed onto a test server in preparation to check it out and learn the application. I was able to discover, edit, and even setup notifications via email. I am using the Microsoft SQL Service desktop engine for the DB.

I tried to access it the other day and now it won't load. I get the following error in the application eventviewer: "com.hp.mx.database.DbVerificationException: Error loading database verification handler 'com.hp.mx.database.MsSqlVerificationHandler'
com.hp.mx.database.DbVerificationException: Error accessing database "

I discovered the SQL wasn't autostarting..but was able to manually start AND restarted hp SIM service and IIS services. Still no luck. I just get a little popup window that says CHECKING HTTP SERVER STATUS

I am at a loss why it quick working.

Anyone have any ideas? Much thanks!

Re: HP SIM no longer loads

When you use the desktop shortcut or the Start Menu to launch to hpSIM, the JavaScript applet first checks through WMI to see if the HTTP service is running yet. In some situations it seems that it does not get a response.

In that case, close the window and launch IE and go to https://SERVERNAME:50000. If you get a DNS or other error, the launch applet was right, the HTTP server hasn't initialized and should be troubleshooted from there.

By the way, hpSIM does NOT use IIS, it provides its own HTTP.

Re: HP SIM no longer loads

if you are going to use the :50000 port you need to add an "s" to http (https) to the front of the URL. Otherwise without the https you will have to use port :280

Good catch, Ed. I've edited to add the 's' ...

Re: HP SIM no longer loads

You know David...there is a large bank having a similar problem with SIM not loading except it's coming up with a java exception error. It's preventing the home page from even loading properly. The guy has tried uninstalling java, reinstalling java... clearing the java cache...so I don't know if you have run across anything in these threads that have addressed this issue, but I thought I'd ask.
Thanks,

Re: HP SIM no longer loads

Ed, I would recommend to them to open a support call. While there have been a few reports of not being able to use the shortcut (it sticks at "Checking HTTP Server Status"), hpSIM is up and running because accessing it via the URL works 100% of the time (okay, everyone, I'll apologize if my assumption is wrong). The problem seems to be associated with the shortcut itself which uses a JavaScript applet to query through WMI to see if the hpSIM application is available through HTTP. It appears to never get a positive response so it sits there in a loop.

I would say a Java exception is an unrelated problem. Since it happens as they are trying to get access, it sounds like the fault is happening during the determination of whether a Java plug-in is available and/or the correct version. Though knowing the exact error and how it appears would be necessary (is it a browser dialog box or in the page being served by HTTP) to determine if it's client-side or server-side Java that's at fault.

The 2 troubleshooting activities would be to determine if it happens at every client trying to access (shouldn't happen at every one if it's plug-in related, assuming it is a multiple-version issue) and possibly removing all Java plug-ins, rebooting and then installing the one that comes with hpSIM.

Might be simpler if handled as a support case...
