HP SIM v HP Openview
Dear All,
Newbie here. I've tried searching for relevant threads but have found nothing so far so forgive me if this has already been raised previously.
My Boss wants to know what features Openview can offer us for monitoring our HP devices that HP SIM can't ?
We're mainly just looking for failing drives on servers and servers running too hot, etc...
Is there a document anywhere "HP SIM v HP Openview" ???
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Re: HP SIM v HP Openview
Neither product does that, they rely on the agents to send them the information. The Polling really only picks up loss of availaibility etc.
HPSIM is designed to receive this type of information via SNMP Traps as is HP OpenView.
HP OpenView is a much broader product spec. and HPSIM is positioned to feed information to HP OpenView if you need that extensive product set.
So, if you were looking for an ITIL type product you may consider HP OpenView. It would pull together differnt data sources to give a complete picture of your infrastructure.
Given your requirements, HPSIM should be fine. It's free so there's nothing to be lost from implementing it.
