HP SMH - UI timeout ...

When I try to access the SMH on a 3 of my servers I am getting the following error message.
"A timeout occurred while loading data for the HP System Management Homepage which may result in missing or incomplete information. See the HP System Management Homepage log for additional information."
I have read thru several previous posts - uninstalled VCA, double checked, even triple checked my SNMP settings, and still the error message. I have created different SNMP communities (ro and rw) to no avail. I don't understand why this setup isn't working as it is exactly the same on several of my other servers. SMH is version 5.1. the log file indicates it is a UI time out after 24s. I have changed the community names, trap destinations (localhost, hostname, and IP addr) I have changed the security settings to accept traps from any host. My public and private snmp communities are global to every host - Read Only & Read Write. I have re-installed SMH three or four times.

It should be noted that I also recieve an IE error in the browser -
"Line: 2002
Char: 9
Error: 'cpqHeResilientMemCondition' is undefined
Code: 0
Url: https://127.0.0.1:2381/proxy/smhui/chptree.htm"

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: HP SMH - UI timeout ...

Hello Chad,

Check http://support.ipmonitor.com/mibs/CPQHLTH-MIB/item.aspx?id=cpqHeResilientMemCondition

Appreciate if you could provide server model and os.

SMH timeout issue is strange in the sense it persists even after trying most of the options.

Re: HP SMH - UI timeout ...

I would also like to point out that I have HP OV NNM installed on this server. And I get SNMP messages in OV from this server. So my SNMP would have to be correctly setup if Openview is pulling SNMP events from this server?

Re: HP SMH - UI timeout ...

Hi Chad, I have a very similar problem on an ESX 2.5.2 box running the 7.51a agent.

Sometimes if I refresh the page it will display the correct data, other times it doesn't show any hardware info. If you find an answer please post it here.

Thanks,

Dan

Yeah still no luck here. Refresh always gives me the same results. I'm just waiting at this point for a patch or different version.

Re: HP SMH - UI timeout ...

I am having the same issue, no information being displayed in the HP System Management Home Page.

Circumstances:
VMware ESX 3.0.1 with all patches as of 3/20/07
HP SIM Agents for ESX 3.x version 7.70
Hardware: DL585G2 and BL45P blade

The problem appears when I install the agents in a silent installation. If I install the agents manually while answering all the questions, I have no issues with the SIM home page.

Here is my silent installation script for the ESX host:

#Install HP Insight Management Agents 7.70:
#Paste the following into PuTTY:
cd /tmp
lwp-download http://iisserver/esxupdate/hpmgmt-7.7.0-vmware3x.tgz
tar -xzvf hpmgmt-7.7.0-vmware3x.tgz
cd hpmgmt/770/
lwp-download http://iisserver/esxupdate/hpmgmt.conf
./installvm770.sh --silent --inputfile hpmgmt.conf

#Remove HP Insight Management Agents 7.70 installation files:
#Paste the following into PuTTY:
cd /tmp
rm -f hpmgmt-7.7.0-vmware3x.tgz
rm -f -r hpmgmt

If I recycle HPASM, I do get a few interesting error messages:

[root@ESXSERVER /tmp]# service hpasm restart

Re: HP SMH - UI timeout ...

Hey Chad,
Reinstalling SMH, as you found out, will not help the timeout issue. That is because it is not SMH that is timing out, it is one of the web applications using SMH. Check the log file again, you indicated something was timing out at 24s. There should be an entry in there that has a response time from web application that is installed and using SMH. The one with the longest response time is probably the one that is causing the timeout. The big culprits are usually the Version Control Agent or one of the SNMP agents. The VCA problem is usually caused by installilng the VCA but it not being setup to point to an operational VC Repository Manager or to a VCRM that cannot be reached over the network. If it is one of the SNMP agents then it is usually due to some SNMP configuration issue, it looks like you have checked that already. Just some things to check on.

Good Luck,

-Rich

Re: HP SMH - UI timeout ...

I got my particular issue resolved tonight. Turns out that the silent configuration file hpmgmt.conf DOES NOT like to be edited with notepad or wordpad. The file must be edited with a native Linux text editor. I used nano. My guess is that notepad or wordpad is putting hidden control characters in the file which garfs the silent install.
