HP VPM error 1720

I am attempting to install HP VPM 2.0 on a Windows 2003 SP1 server with SIM 5.0 SP4. Everything goes ok till it ends with this error: " error 1720 there is a problem with this windows installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact support or package vendor' Custom action installWebService script error 2147024893 , line 40 colum 5" .
This issue seems common as i found an old post back from 2004 and 2005. The suggestion was to copy the install files to the same drive and destination directory. Didn't work for me. Any help would be great.

This is an MSDE installation error. It usually occurs if you have separated the vpm install directory from the MSDE install directory. Are you installing from a CD or vpm download executable?

fyi - there is a vpm 2.0.1 release now available. http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/try.do?productNumber=HPVPMP
