IBM mibs

I have an IBM xSeries 235 server and I am not having any luck getting the mibs registered in SIM. The mibs I am using are from IBM's eDirector management program. Where can I find mibs for the xSeries 235 server that I can use with HP's Systems Insight Manager? Are there any knowledge base articles that would deal specifically with this issue?

Thank you for any help.

Re: IBM mibs

we have quite a few X225,X345 and X305 servers plus an IBM Blade all managed by our HPSIM 4.1- runs very well.

When you get HPSIM there are already a few IBM MIBS and I think I got a couple more from IBM.

All you do is Compile them and register them because I don't think they are compiled by default.
The IBM Mibs are;

ibmmmalert
ibmserveraidalert
ibmums
ibmumsevent

These will give you most hardware alerts you are looking for.

I would also install Director agent 4.12 which is also very handy for a web based troubleshooting interface. If you have a Raid controller try installing the Raid management program which you can set up to send alerts independently of HPSIM.

Re: IBM mibs

2 websites with IBM Mibs

http://www.oidview.com/mibs/detail.html

http://www.mibdepot.com/index.shtml

BTW the mibs for HP Sim are located in

Program files\hp\systems insightmanager\mibs

you can configure them in the SIM> options>events>Snmp trap settings

Re: IBM mibs

I successfully registered the mibs you listed into SIM. I noticed under Hardware Status there is not a listing called "from Insight Management Agents" which does show up under all my Compaq servers. Should this also show up under my IBM server? Do any of the mibs you listed cover the power supply? I usually test the configuration by unplugging one of the redundant power supplies to see if a trap will be sent and in this case there was no alert in SIM.

I really appreciate all your help.

Re: IBM mibs

Hi Jeff,

You could try to do a "snmpwalk" from your management-server(snmpwalk -c public ibm-server-address ? this will give lots of output!). This should reveal all stored mibs and actual values from you IBM server.

Re: IBM mibs

Jeff:

The reference "from Insight Management agents" refers to a specific capability unique to Insight agents and ProLiant servers. For your IBM servers the SNMP status poll and ping are all that HP SIM will be able to get from your IBM servers.

Thanks for all the help. I am now able to monitor my xSeries server and I'm getting email notifications.
