Re: Insight Manager
HP Systems Insight Manager 5.0 is the only current management application and has replaced earlier Insight Manager versions. HP SIM is licensed to run on HP hardware but there is no technical reason why it can't be hosted on another vendor's hardware; however, please be aware that assistance from technical support will be limited to basic troubleshooting if HP SIM is installed on a non-HP platform. Please be aware of the minimum configuration for hosting as stated in the HP SIM QuickSpecs. http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim --> Worldwide QuickSpecs (HTML)
All workloads are not suitable for running in a virtual machine. Typical applications that are unsuitable are those that have high I/O requirements. Management applications fall into that category. HP SIM has high disk I/O and high network bandwidth requirements. Because of the demands of other virtual machines, HP SIM may not be responsive when a critical error comes in and therefore miss it. When HP SIM is performing its operation, it may interfere with the service level of another application existing on the physical host.
For demo purposes it works great, but only for the smallest networks. It would be irresponsible to attempt to host HP SIM (as well as virtually any other management application) in a virtual machine for a production environment. Because of this, effective with HP SIM 5.0 we explicitly DO NOT support its operation within a virtual machine.
