Installing Insight Manager 5.2

I have a SBS 2003 server and Vista workstation. I am trying to install Insight Manager entirely onto the workstation where I login with a domain account to test it out.

It is completely hit and miss whether I can get past the DB sign-on screen on the installer. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.

Here are some of the things I have tried:
I have removed UAC - which I don't like;
my domain account successfully connects to the SQL Server DB;

I run setup as an administrator.

Can anyone list out the precise set of configuration changes required to get this to work?

can you tell when it fails sometime?
you don't need to disable UAC i guess if you are "Administrator".

The only thing I can think of is a timeout or similar against the Active Directory server when called from the setup program (this is NOT a problem when called from Management Studio)
