Legacy System Support using SNMP

I have some systems that can't run the web agent, so we have to use the legacy snmp to view the system. HPSIM doesn't seem to be giving me this option. The status of the system comes through, but I can't view the system.

Has this been removed from SIM or is there something I'm missing on the configuration?

Re: Legacy System Support using SNMP

Based on overwhelming customer feedback, we have been making moves away from SNMP. While hpSIM uses SNMP for status and data collection, it does not have the ability to communicate via SNMP and then format it into HTML pages for viewing. It was a conscious decision to remove this feature that had been present in IM7.

When you say "I have some systems that can't run the web agent," do you mean for technical or internal policy reasons?

Re: Legacy System Support using SNMP

That's going to make our migration much more difficult. Guess our HP SE was wrong when he said "SIM contains all features of IM7/Toptools/ServiceControl" :-)

It's more due to an internal policy to not run the web agents on our internet servers due to the security issues with the web agent in the past. Of course there could be some technical issues, since none of our Web apps have been tested with the web agents running, but I doubt it.

Re: Legacy System Support using SNMP

You may want to revisit that decision. The web agents aren't any more susceptible to attack than anything else on your system. With the ability to restrict IP addresses that they respond to, you can pretty effectively lock down your environment. If all you've been using is the SNMP agent, you're missing out on a lot of features (version control, performance management pack) that IM7 and now hpSIM have to offer.

Re: Legacy System Support using SNMP

Like I said that will make our migration much more difficult. I now have two big issues to work through before we can migrate. First is the no status change when SNMP/agents are stopped (earlier forum topic), and now the political battle over the web agent.

Before I continue my testing are there any other features that were removed from SIM that were present in IM7? If so are they documented anywhere?
