Lotus Notes & SIM 4.2
I have setup an event which should email me when cetain servers are not responding.
I have setup the correct email settings within SIM.
Our notes server has SMTP running and I can telnet onto it fine and also send an email from outlook via the notes smtp and it will arrive in my notes email account from my workstation.
When I power off one of the servers the event is triggered but I get no emails. SIM doesn't even talk to notes as far as I can see.
Do I need to have a notes client installed on the server where SIM is installed?
Thanks
David

Re: Lotus Notes & SIM 4.2
From yor message you indicate you can telnet to the Notes Server, just to confirm, can you Telnet using Port 25 from the HPSIM Server to the Notes Server and can you do a HELO?
You might try rechecking the SMTP Settings in HPSIM, and maybe try pinging the name as entered into the HPSIM e-mail setting box.
HPSIM should communicate via an SMTP connection, it should not need a Lotus Notes Client. I don't know about Notes, but you may need to check if it is only accepting connections from specific hosts.

Re: Lotus Notes & SIM 4.2
thanks for the info, I've made slight progress on this problem.
I could telnet onto the notes SMTP service from my workstation but when I tried from the SIM server I could not.
Got the following:
Could not open connection to host on port 25 ..... connection failed.
I've no firewall on this server so it should not be blocking any ports but its unable to open port 25. The server is also setup as a file server. The notes smtp service will communicate with anything on the domain.
Is the new security settings in windows 2003 locking down the system and blocking all ports?

Re: Lotus Notes & SIM 4.2
I'm not an expert on W2003, but I don't know of anything that would block outbound SMTP Traffic.
As this is not really an HPSIM issue, but rather some kind of SMTP issue you may get more informed responses on say a Lotus Notes forum.
The fact a simple outbound telnet connection doesn't work suggests the issue is outside of HPSIM. And as my knowledge of Lotus Notes doesn't extend beyond spelling it... 8-)

Re: Lotus Notes & SIM 4.2
found out what the problem was, the McAfee virus software was blocking port 25 and only allowing certain programs to email (on the server with SIM), so I disabled this protection and I am now getting emails into notes from SIM.
Thanks for your help,
David
