Re: Missing non-BOLD items in SIM menus
It's almost like someone has either edited or removed the Monitor Tools package.
If you do a report on the Monitor Tools Package it should list all of the tools, see my snapshot of the start of ours.

Re: Missing non-BOLD items in SIM menus
Secondly, Ron Kowalka responded above (Ron is one of the hpSIM dev managers attempting to remain incognito. Busted, Ron!) we have seen spaces in DNS names (not valid for DNS names anyway, but earlier firmware versions for the blade cabinets didn't enforce this) break the parsing algorithm which resulted in menus disappearing.
In troubleshooting, I'd be curious about several things:
- Do the missing menu items properly appear in the output when mxtool is used to list the tools?
- Has the mxtool command been used to add any personal tools?
- Can you use mxexec (or mxtask in some cases) to execute a tool that doesn't appear in a missing menu?

Re: Missing non-BOLD items in SIM menus
1)Yes, if I run mxtool the "menu" items are listed there.
2)no, mxtool has not been run to add any personal menus
3)I'm not familiar with mxexec and the syntax for it. Could you give me an example?
thanks for all the help.
Also, if it helps I have a case open with HP support (#3204949348) that is supposed to be escalated.

Re: Missing non-BOLD items in SIM menus
mxexec -t "netstat" -n "HPSIM"
and receive first the comment
'Running tool netstat with job id xxxxx.' followed by the headers and then the output.

Re: Missing non-BOLD items in SIM menus
Today we did a new install of HPSIm to the same server, I belive that my was as follows.
This HP SIM server also runs Rapid Deployment that has been uppgraded to 1.50, we use MSDE. During the update of MSDE 1 to MSDE 2000sp3a we did have some problems with protocols. But it was solved with some registry editing. When we later added the security features to RDP for controlering jobs SIM that shares this MSDE installation with RDP somehow loosed access to its own database.
With the new installation of SIM we are up and running again.

Re: Missing non-BOLD items in SIM menus
Good, we may be getting to the bottom of things. As you may have guessed, the UI is populated dynamically. I wanted to determine if the app was running appropriately or if stuff just wasn't showing up in the UI. This error seems to indicate that the problem isn't with the UI but with the application itself.
At this point, I'm going to doubt that we can fix this in the forum and to rely on the case you already have open. However, if you can document your install (any weirdness other than MSDE from the hpSIM download and hpSIM being the only app on the box) and all changes that happened from the time it was working okay to the time it started acting weird, I think that would help.

Re: Missing non-BOLD items in SIM menus
I've had the same thing happen twice now (did complete rebuild after first time). Here's my config:
Dedicated DL360 G3 dual 3.06 / 3GB Ram - server is dedicated to SIM and VC repository. I'm monitoring about 350 devices.
The first time I had a problem, I lost all my non-bold items. Got lots of HTTP 500 errors with the apache exception codes. Ended up doing complete rebuild from scratch.
I was working fine for several weeks after rebuild. No config changes made, now I cannot access certain menus (Global Protocol settings is what's killing me) - I get the HTTP 500 error (org.apache.jasper.JasperException)
All my servers (160+) are going to 'unmanaged' state (probably related to Global Protocol Settings above).
Any suggestions welcomed. TIA
Regards, jh

Re: Missing non-BOLD items in SIM menus
right on, thanks for the solution. After deleting the 'nodesecurity.xml' & restarting SIM service I now get a blank page to re-populate-
Thanks again,
Jon
