Moving SIM Database

Moving SIM Database

Hi

We have HP SIM Installed with the database on a seperate MSSQL server. We now want to move the database to a new server does anyone know how we point SIM to the new MSSQL Server once we ahve backed up and restored the database? I can only think of re-installing SIM and point the install to thenew MSSQL Server then do a backup and restore of the old database, any other ideas would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Micahel

Re: Moving SIM Database

This seems to be MDSE to MSSQL not MSSQL to MSSQL installations.

Re: Moving SIM Database

Michael, i have the same issue (raised here: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1061437), but havent found anyone with an answer. I'd be interested to know too, but at this point it looks like i am starting from scratch (with a different servername and then renaming it, as outlined in the PDF before), therefor discarding my old DB. Sorry, i cant be of help.. If you find a way, pls post it.. :)

Re: Moving SIM Database

The same solution given for MSDE to MSSQL should work for MSSQL to MSSQL too.

Re: Moving SIM Database

Michael, did you try and redirect the system with the database.props file ? There are some values in there, the file is in the Config subfolder under your install.. ie. C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\config if installed in the default path.. You might need to change your ODBC values too (on the CMS). Try that out and see if points CMS to the new DB..

(PS: I havent tried this as i am starting from scratch with a new DB)

Re: Moving SIM Database

Michael, look for the PDF:
hpsim_5_changing_the_SystemName.pdf

On hp.com
This has SYSTem Name changes and ODBC and the queries in it.. That might just do it (Sorry, i cant seem to attach it here)..
