MSDE will not restart

I would like to backup the HPSIM DB and need to stop MSDE. It stops fine using net stop but I get an error when I try to restart MSDE. It does not give an error #. Attached is the error I get when trying to restart the service.

Here is what is in the event log.

Re: MSDE will not restart

Do you have any system that has SQL Server on it? You can then register the MSDE database into SQL Enterprise Manager and administer the MSDE database as if it was a full SQL database.

Otherwise, reapplying SQL Desktop Engine (MSDE) Service Pack 3a may be a good troubleshooting technique. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290211/EN-US/
