Since we installed the new .net service pack on our Windows 2003 server we cannot connect to the server using Internet Explorer. What happens is that the server keeps trying to install the JRE. It works fine when I use Mozilla or Firefox.
"You do not have a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed. HP Systems Insight Manager requires JRE"
That Windows 2003 server is running HPSIM 4.0. The update that resolved the problem with the new IE patch is installed. Everything was working fine until tuesday when we applied the .net service pack for Windows 2003 and restarted the server.
Our IE version is fully patched running on Windows XP xp1. This is happening on all the workstations.
Anyone else having this issue or is running HPSIM on a 2003 server and has the .net service pack?

Re: New .net patch problem with HPSIM 4.0 on Windows 2003 server
I am unsure if its directly related to the patch but that is the only thing that changed since it was working.
There is no problems with my java installation. Every worstation cannot connect to HPSIM including the SIM server. I am forced to use Mozilla or Firefox and those 2 browsers are barely functional with SIM.

Re: New .net patch problem with HPSIM 4.0 on Windows 2003 server
I've also seen other comments regarding usability of Mozilla/Firefox, though I haven't had any trouble. Any chance you (or others experiencing this) can document a little bit of what is working or not working? In my usage I haven't run into anything. I'd really like to feed this back to the QA team...

Re: New .net patch problem with HPSIM 4.0 on Windows 2003 server
It only contains :
#
#Fri Sep 10 07:49:31 EDT 2004
last_used_repository=server
If I rename it HPSIM recreates the same file with the same content.
How do I recreate a good globalsettings.props file?
I found some other posts that have the same issue and they had to reinstall HPSIM. At worst, is there a way to reinstall HPSIM without loosing the configuration and database?

SolutionAfter restoring the file you should restart the "HP Systems Insight Manager" service and you should be able to once again login using IE

Re: New .net patch problem with HPSIM 4.0 on Windows 2003 server
The biggest problem with Mozilla and Firefox is really when its loading/compiling lists of computers/events. It takes a very long time to load the lists and when you select items the browser freezes most of the time. Sometimes you manage to select all of your events and hit clear, then the browser hangs. When you come back the events are not cleared. This mostly happens when there are 25+ events but it is pretty random.
I currently have Firefox 0.9.3 and Mozilla 1.7.2 Its a lot better than it used to be but I think those browsers have trouble with the Java.

Re: New .net patch problem with HPSIM 4.0 on Windows 2003 server
Loosing some settings is not a big deal.
Also, I think I know why the file(s) got corrupted. We ran out of disk space last week-end on the HPSIM server because of a misbehaving software. (filled up 10 gigs in 5 minutes...)

Re: New .net patch problem with HPSIM 4.0 on Windows 2003 server
After a couple of minutes, SIM responded and I was able to log in!
I only had to reconfigure my discovery, e-mail settings and some minor default protocol settings.
Thank you so much Joel for the file,
A good tip to everyone would be to back the globalsettings.props file up so you don't have to go through this trouble.

Re: New .net patch problem with HPSIM 4.0 on Windows 2003 server
It doesn't really matter to me since I connect using the hostname but I though it was worth to mention. I honestly did'nt connect using the IP address before so I cannot confirm that it was working prior to this incident.
