Newbie doing a SIM install...
I am trying to install SIM but I have these issues:
1. On the server where the SIM (CMS) was installed which is a HP Blade Quad Core , I have a message that says "Version Conrol Agent Not Detected. The VA has not beet detected on the target system. On a Windows system, the ...."
2. On my "client" server SMH, the following shows:
a) under the VERSION CONTROL, has a ? on HP Version Control Agent..
b) Software status has a ? saying "status cannot be calculated because VCRM has not been installed. Click on "change agent settings to specify a VCRM"
What I did: (is this correct?)
1. Installed SIM, SMH, and RSSM on the monitoring server CMS.(I assume SIM install will make a server a CMS?)
2. Installed SMH and RSSM on the target or slave server only.
I only have this two server set-up for testing though they are both connected to our production domain, where I RDP both Servers from my desktop)
3. My reposity is located at C:\Repository\ on the CMS server but is always empty
4. On my target server I can see everything and every details when I open the SMH but I don't see the same details if I open the SMH of the CMS.
5. Do I need to create a separate domain for these two servers?
I think my VCRM is not communicating with the VCA. What am I missing here?
Please help a newbie understand this new? server technology.
Thanks.

Re: Newbie doing a SIM install...
Going back a bit, was the Blade originally built using smart start? It's a good idea as that installs SNMP and the HP Agents, so you have a good base.
For things to work HPSIM needs to have a trust relationship with the servers it monitors, and that includes itself.
The easiest way is to use trust by certificate and then import the cert from the SIM Server (under settings on the SMH).
The VCRM can be populated automatically or manually. I do manual as I like the control. So your setup I'd create sub-dirs (e.g. PSP8.1x86) under what you have and download the relevant PSP there. I create a separate dir for f/w.
When you're expanding things, the agents can be configured in the VCRM, so you can actually add the certificate to the agent before deployment.
SNMP is important - see numerous posts in this forum. The latest agents also use WBEM.
No, you do not need separate domains.
For the VCRM/VCA, it uses a login as part of the VCA config. I set up and use a local account on the VCRM Server. Again these details can be configured into the agents.
There's also a replicate settings feature in HPSIM.
