Problems accessing Workstations via WMI
Hi,
I have a problem when I try to monitor a workstation via WMI. Unfortunately there is not much documentation about it and maybe I understood something wrong.
I have a HP SIM 4 server running Win2k SP4 english. This Server shall monitor a workstation running WinXP SP1 english. Both systems are in the same Domain of our Active Directory.
The WMI Mapper Proxy is running and configured to the public IP address of the machine. According to netstat this port is in use and bound to all IP-Adresses (0.0.0.0).
As Username I specified the local administrator like this: MACHINE\Accountname and saved the corresponding password.
Can I use an account with lower privileges here? Where can I configure which users can do WMI?
When I run an identify of the machine I get no output. Identifying takes about 35 seconds. When I run data collection I get the following output: "The device does not have any supported instrumentation."
The windows services "Windows Managment Instrumentation" and "Windows Managment Insrumentation Driver Extensions" are installed. Per default only the first service is started but It also not works when both services are started.
Do I need some software installed on the client. As I read in the Web based training all neccessary things for WBEM/WMI are included in Windows XP.
Does someone have some hints to get this configuration working?
With best regards
Andreas Seemüll
