You can run an inventory report and specify the product ID.

Re: Product-ID server hardware

I have found older models of ProLiant will not report up a product ID and hence the Contract and Warrenty data collection fails. I have to hunt down the product ID from the boxes themselves and manually enter them into SIM. One can imagine the hasle for servers located 200 miles away in another city. This is a MAJOR issue in this tool. It has something to do with 10-digit serial numbers versus 12-digit serial numbers.

The models I have problem with, to name a few, include:

DL380 G3 (they changed the serial number scheme half-way throught the life of this product so some of mine are 12-digit and work and the other half are 10-digit and fail).
DL360 G3
DL580 G2

Complete information on this topic is available from http://www.hp.com/servers/serial

You must have PSP 7.1 or later to pick up the product ID in addition to serial number.

Re: Product-ID server hardware

Make sure
1) SNMP service is running on the server.
2) SNMP community string is public
3) Servers have latest PSP versions

Hope this helps.

Re: Product-ID server hardware

Make sure
1) SNMP service is running on the server. and make sure the server setting "Accept SNMP packets from all hosts" is enabled.
2) SNMP community string is public
3) Servers have latest PSP versions
4) Make sure server have Product ID set on the BIOS [Setting Product ID and Serial number is present in attached docs]
5) Check if the OID "1.3.6.1.4.1.232.2.2.2.6.0" is giving the Product ID.
6) In case the server is discovered via WBEM then make sure Wbem service is running on the server.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I am ruuning into the same problem. Just wonder how you run the inventory report with the Product ID? Do you use SMS?

Thanks.

Re: Product-ID server hardware

My organization does not let me use all those whizbang tools that HP supplies and most of my servers are off-site. I am stuck finding it in the command prompt of Server 2003.

Remotely in Server 2003 I use the command prompt with the command: wmic ComputerSystem

You get a lot of nonsense but 3/4 of the way down you will see "Product ID: xxxxxx-xxx".

To get the serial number and HP Model in command prompt, use the command: wmic csproduct
the serial number will appear before the model.
