PSP 7.90A Component configuration doesn't work
PSP 7.90A with HP Smart Update manager.
When I select "Configure Now" for configurable component in HP Smart Update manager the only message "please wait" appears for 1-2 seconds
and no configuration screen appear.
If anyone see same behaviour ?
(I checked that PSP located in write-accessible location)
Thanks, Igor

Re: PSP 7.90A Component configuration doesn't work
As part of the HP Smart Update Manager development team, we've been watching this thread to see if someone would post more information regarding their configuration (ie server used, installation environment, how HPSUM is being executed, do you have javascript enabled on the workstation where HPSUM is being executed, which components are affected and steps to reproduce) so we could nail down the cause of the issue. We have not been able to duplicate this in our lab on any server with multiple configurations and operating systems.
Normally, if a component cannot be configured, it is because the component file (ie cp007246.exe) is marked read-only. This can occur if the files are copied off the CD to a share or are accessed off a remote read-only file share. There is code in HPSUM to detect read-only conditions and correct it if possible. This code was thoroughly tested prior to release, so the reports of configuration failures have us scratching our heads.
If someone will provide information about their environment it would greatly help. In addition, if someone can zip and attach the files located in the %TEMP%\hp_sum directory structure after a failure is observed, we should be able to replicate the failure and determine the cause.
Thanks,
Michael Garner

Re: PSP 7.90A Component configuration doesn't work
This may not be much help but I just wanted to let you know that I am having no trouble configuring the components in PSP 7.90. It may at least give you some additional information.
I have done it in two different ways. I logged onto a server and mapped to the Insight Manager server and ran the PSP setup.exe from that location. The server I was logged onto is an ML370 G4 running 2003 SP2. The Insight server I was mapped to is a ProLiant BL20p G2 blade server running 2003 SP1. I configured the agents, the homepage, and the VCA.
I also had no trouble configuring the components through the VCRM. The workstation I use to log into Insight is XP SP2 running JRE 1.5.0_10.

Re: PSP 7.90A Component configuration doesn't work
First, thanks to all participants :-)
Michael,
I have tried on windows 2003 sp1, on windows XP sp2 and on windows 2000 sp4 prof.
In all cases I copied all PSP files to local disk and checked that files is not read-only
Attached hp-sum.zip
Thanks, Igor

Re: PSP 7.90A Component configuration doesn't work
If I change regional settings to English - component configuration work as expected.
Note: peoples in this thread who complain about problem : Lithuania,Germany,UK, Israel,....
To Michael Garner : try to change regional settings and test ...
The humor is that my first question on this forum four years ago
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=199082
related to IM7 problem with regional settings as well.
Probably HP QA just don't know that HP SIM maybe used not only in USA....

Re: PSP 7.90A Component configuration doesn't work
Hi Igor,
yes you're right. Perhaps it might be a good idea of the HP guys to do a better testing of their products in the future.
(and not only for the us residents)
I really can understand why so many people are frustrated. At first you have to search for weeks for weird system errors and dumps affected through the support packs 7.70 and 7.80 and then this problem.
(and many of our 700 servers were affected)
I believe about 10 supportpacks in 12 months shows the problem, perhaps they will achieve their former quality when they decrease this intervall to former times e.g. SPP 5.x.
(and its quality)
And i don't talk about bad drivers that shouldn't be exchanged by new releases.
They are already creating them additional to the spp's and that's fine.
There are and there were too many bugs in the 7.x series. Hopefully that they will getting better again in the future.
And last but not least thank you very much for your solution, otherwise we propably
have to search for it many days more.
Rainer
