Re: Server as Device Type Unknown
Check SNMP propertis, tab security, If you have selected option Accept SNMP traps from these host, check if there is localhost.

Re: Server as Device Type Unknown
Localhost is specified, what should I have on the Traps tab? Are there any configs in Insight Manager I should check out as well?

Re: Server as Device Type Unknown
SNMP traps go the other direction, kinda like having a server shout for help to HP SIM. The trap destination needs to be set to the HP SIM server if you want HP SIM to get alerts.

Re: Server as Device Type Unknown
I think I need to ensure that SNMP service & HP SIM are configured correctly but I do not know enough to be able to configure this service and therefore will need a little help, thanks.
I have checked the SNMP service and localhost is configured. As far as I can see HP SIM is seeing the server as device=other but knows that it is named floserv qualified to floserv.floyd.biz on IP 192.168.2.1
What do I need to check with regards to HP SIM configs please?
regards

SolutionSNMP Config - Security Config - Add "CMS Server Name" READ_CREATE & Accept SNMP packets from these hosts = localhost, "CMS Server"
Trap Config - add " CMS Server Name" trap destination = CMS Name or IP Address
Restart the agents and I found on some I had to remove from CMS and Re-Discover
Hope this helps,
Simon.
