SIM 4.1 Cannot create a new event handling task
I am currently running SIM4.1 on a Dell server, on Windows 2000 Professional. (Trying to get it to work to compare to current Insight manager 7)
Everything seems to work , but I cannot define new tasks for notification.
Under Automatic Event Handling - New Task
Step 3 of 6 "Select Systems"
generates an "Error on Page" message in IE. No matter what parameter I select here, the next button does not work.
The details of the error are as follows:
When first entering the page, and selecting any of the drop down menus, The error varies.
Initially the "Cluster membership" is displayed, and the boolean operator dropdown in the middle is blank. and I get an "Object does not support this property or method."
After selecting another option, and then "Cluster membership" again, the boolean choices appear, and the error message clears. I still cannot get past this page, however with any selection.
After selecting a valid combination, and clicking on next, the error is always in Line 1836, Char 5 "Object Required" Code:0
in HTTPS://myservername:50000/mxportal/search/AdvancedSystemsSearch.jsp?inframe=alerts
This occurred with the JRE that installed with SIM 4.1, I tried updating to the 1.4.2_04 and 1.4.2_05-b904 JRE
I also experience the exact same behavior on 4 different OSs and 4 different versions of IE.
Without notification the product is farily useless to me.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
- Clay.

Re: SIM 4.1 Cannot create a new event handling task
This is not related to the JRE. The functionality you are referencing is implemented using JavaScript which is executed by the browser directly, not through a JRE.
This symptom is usually caused by problems parsing the script. HP SIM dynamically renders pages into JavaScript, intermixing program code along with data.
A common problem that causes this is corrupt data, sometimes caused by blade cabinets having erroneous spaces embedded in the name. Separately, browser security settings can also be a cause.

Re: SIM 4.1 Cannot create a new event handling task
I am seeing the exact same thing, just upgraded to 4.2 and I can't edit existing or create new event handling tasks. Nice upgrade! HELP!
