SIM 5.0 not reporting server outages

The HS icon in SIM 5.0 for our servers don't change. They remain green even when some server's have been shut off. I also have one that remains red and the server is on.

SIM also doesn't seem to pick up the change in the Events details. Today I've shutoff and turned on several servers and SIM hasn't reported a thing.

I've reboot SIM, verified IP's and DNS, verified SNMP, and so on. Removing and re-adding servers in SIM doesn't help.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Re: SIM 5.0 not reporting server outages

Check that the Hardware Polling task is running.

I changed the H/W Polling task here, I created a new H/W Polling task that only used Ping and that ran every minute. I then removed Ping from the default Polling task.

Note, by default the H/W Polling task only runs every 5 minutes and every 10 minutes for Non-Server devices.

Re: SIM 5.0 not reporting server outages

I am having the same problem since I upgraded to HP SIM 5.0. I checked the H/W Polling settings and the Timeout is set for 4 seconds. What am I missing?

Re: SIM 5.0 not reporting server outages

It's not the Timeout value, it's how often the Polling Task runs, which is under Scheduled Tasks.
Also look under All Tasks and check there are no jobs Pending.
I found I had a whole lot of Initial Discovery jobs waiting and had to restart HPSIM to get things going again.

Re: SIM 5.0 not reporting server outages

I saw a similar issue on one of the servers I upgraded to SIM 5.0. Even though the Status polling for servers task was running every 5 minutes the status of the servers never changed. I went to Tasks and Logs --> View All Scheduled Tasks. I selected the "Hardware Status Polling for Servers" task, clicked edit and stepped through all the screens making no changes. After clicking done the task started to work correctly.

Re: SIM 5.0 not reporting server outages

Thank you everyone.

I switched from TCP pings back to ICMP pings, but it didn't help.

I switched back to TCP pings and manually ran the task. Still nothing.

Finally, it tried Joel's recommendation which worked. (Thanks Joel).

I'll watch it for a while before I close this thread.

Re: SIM 5.0 not reporting server outages

I have just run into the exact same problem after upgrading to SIM 5.

Luckily, I came across this thread. I have just tried what Joel posted and hope to see some results today (we are bound to have a server go unreachable sometime today).

I will post my results.

Joel's solution worked for me too.

Re: SIM 5.0 not reporting server outages

Joel provided the solution. The Health Status has been reporting properly since I applied his change. Thanks.

Great Joel's solution worked for me too. I had the same issue about not getting the Unreachable events.
