Hi,
As above i'm looking into building an additional server to allow us to monitor servers in our DMZ and syncing this information with our main SIM database?
We have a bunch of servers which sit in our DMZ (web servers for example) which have no route to any of the other servers other then web servers (belong in a workgroup rather then our domain group). I would like to be able to accurately monitor these servers but at current I can't? The servers appear in our current SIM database because we have a trust relationship with the enclosure they are seated in, otherwise the addresses do not appear as you'll be aware and the information isn't exactly what I would call accurate, also these servers have multiple NIC's so appear under different names / IP addresses ould like to do the following.....
The only way I'll be allowed to do this is by (security restrictions from company); building an additional SIM server which is positioned in the DMZ, this server collects all information from servers within the DMZ which will then pass over to our main SIM database?
I would like to know firstly, is it possible to have multiple instances of SIM (e.g. can I simply install a lightweight version of SIM which acts as a "collector"). Secondly, aside from forwarding SNMP traps is there a better way of doing this (because these servers are in the DMZ they don't have an outside route).
Any ideas?

Solution
hi
firstly, is it possible to have multiple instances of SIM (e.g. can I simply install a lightweight version of SIM which acts as a "collector").
the answer is no : there is no lightweight version of SIM that can act as a "collector".There is no type manager of manager architecture in the current release of HP SIM.
Secondly, aside from forwarding SNMP traps is there a better way of doing this (because these servers are in the DMZ they don't have an outside route).
Have you looked at the following doc that may help you manage your server that are behind a firewall...
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/c-products/servers/management/hpsim/hpsim-53-managing-firewalls.pdf
hope it helps

Re: SIM 5.3 - Multiple SIM Servers.....is this possible?
hi, thanks for the reply.....oh well at least its cleared that up slightly - although I am starting to see the restrictions of this product now;
if you only have one SIM database and would like to manage multiple locations outside of your head office which is normally a slow-ish link is it really a good idea to poll all of these sites from one place (e.g. Japan to oversea's?) I'm probably just expecting too much from this product but it does seem a bit of an oversight....
