SIM 7.3 "...failed to install successfully. Setup Cannot continue..."

Hey guys,

 

Google and forum searchs have come up dry on this so I hope you can help.

I am trying to install HP SIM 7.3 on a VM and the install appears to be terminating at the first application in the set "System management homepage". This happens almost immediately once starting the actual installation.

Reviewing the smh logs reveals a single entry per install attempt... "arg: /regrc "

Previous google suggestions advised turning off "IE ESC", Windows DEP, and installing with a local admin rather than domain user as a member of local admins. Also tried elevating setup.exe to admin. None of these helped.


Prerquisite checks all passed and the database trying to be used is a local copy of SQL express which was installed the first time around by SIM.

Attached a copy of the OSDB and hpsim logs. OS is x64 Server 2008 Standard SP2 running IE 7.

Hello,

You could try to install just the System Management Homepage. See if it installs and then try a SIM install.

Hi Andrew,

 

I downloaded and installed the current SMH 7.3.1 successfully. SIM installation correctly detected that SMH was already installed and omitted it from the installation steps.

The SIM install then proceeded uneventfully. I am now trying to schedule a restart with the customer.

Will let you know how this went.

 

It would appear there is something flaky about the SMH installer that is packaged with SIM.

Shame that the logfiles were not a huge help in diagnosing.
