SIM cannot be started
Hello,
the SIM couldn't be started since 3 days, and I would be very happy if someone can help.
We had no problems with the SIM in the past.
The HP SIM Service is started with the user: domain\hpsim.
This user has permissions in MS SQL and is in the local admin group.
Password for the user hasn't expired and must not be changed.
I retyped the password: mxpassword -g -> retyped for user MXDatabaseUser
MS SQL (local installed, 2008 R2) offers windows authentication and so I logged in with doman\hpsim and created succesfully an odbc-connection to the hp sim database.
Eventlog:
Source HP Systems Insight Manager, Event 3
com.hp.mx.database.DbVerificationException: Problem initializing the database.
com.hp.mx.database.DbVerificationException: Cannot start SIM: Authentication type should be host or dbms, check database.props
Restarting MxDomainManager
Database.props:

Re: SIM cannot be started
Daller Stefan-
1. What error msg you are getting when you tried login?
2. What does Event Log says? (relevent Event Id & exact Msg.)
3. Have you (or someone else) ever changed the password in the past?

Re: SIM cannot be started
Hi,
1. I can´t login any more because i don´t get the SIM webpage. It seems that there ist nothing at port 50000 (checked with netstat).
2. Event Log brings up the following error:
Event-ID: 3
Details:
com.hp.mx.database.DbVerificationException: Problem initializing the database.
com.hp.mx.database.DbVerificationException: Cannot start SIM: Authentication type should be host or dbms, check database.props
3. We did not change any passwords
The system worked fine since about two years. I rebooted the server yesterday (windows patches) and had the problem after the system came up again.

Re: SIM cannot be started
EXACT same problem here this week....
After a lot of investigation we discovered that our CMS ( VM Windows cluster ) was having the following issues:
when navigating through the SIM installation drive ( E:\HPSIM\ ) we went into the e:\HPSIM\config directory and had "permission" issues with that folder...... so....
whilst looking through the files in the e:\hpsim\config directory the contents would suddenly disappear and in the display area we would see " the contents of this folder are empty" hitting F5 would prompt us again to gain permission to view the folder, which was fine for about 8 seconds until the contents disappeared again.
This all appears to be related to the SIM processes trying to restart continually ( part of the cluster services ) I even tried deleting the config folder, but during the auto restart the config folder was automatically recreated by the SIM processes...So we removed the auto restart from the SIM services, and the folder contents did not disappear again..... However SIM could still not start when the processes were started manually, the same problem arose.
At the same time, we tried to delete the config folder ( with the padlock on the icon), after copying the contents somewhere else... Then recreating the folder ( as folder owner ) then when we restarted SIM again, the folder became locked, and we needed to ask for permission to view the contents AGAIN !.....
so, after reading this post today I think there appears to be a bug with HP SIM ( we are at Version 7.0 ) however, we thought it was a SAN issue, and have had the CMS cluster blown away and am getting it rebuilt today....
I hope the above helps someone to work out what the heck is going on. I have never seen these problems with folders before.
Good luck, but as this hasn't only happened to us, I think there must be a bug....
I have just heard from our environmnet team that they rolled out a whole raft of Microsoft patches to the estate within the last 3 weeks........ I wonder if this is related....
(SIM V7.0, Windows server 2008 R2 cluster on VMWare )

Re: SIM cannot be started
Update on the patches..... our CMS has been blown away so I can't check which patches it installed, however, I have the list of patches which were SENT to the CMS.... they are in the attachment.
maybe everyone with the same problem can cross reference this list with their own patch list to see if this is the cause ?
has anyone raised a support case ?
cheers
Sven.

Re: SIM cannot be started
I checked my Windows Updates. We installed MS13-019 yesterday. I removed it from SIM server again, with no difference.

Re: SIM cannot be started
Also, is there any support case has been logged with HP for this issue?
