SIM notifications overwhelming Exchange mail server

Last night and twice again during business this morning, Insight received a notification from the Version Control repository that critical software/firmware update was needed on all of my servers. There was a foundation agent critical post to the system event logs.
The ensuing email notification from SIM to the Exchange mail server for each one of these critical notfications overwhelmed the mail server, requiring me to restart the information store to get mail services flowing again. Is there a way I can configure SIM so that this kind of mass notification doesn't bring my mail server down again?

Thanks,
Paul

How many Servers are you managing with HPSIM.

Did you have multiple notices per Server. I'm just surprised it overwhelemed the Exchange Server.

15 servers. I have stopped services for SIM and VCRM.

I got all these alerts too (at midnight I might add). Although my email server didn't suffer any problem, I didn't appreciate getting a bunch of SMS to my phone at midight!

This is the first time I have ever received critical alerts regarding software updates and I've been running CIM7/HPSIM for years now.

Re: SIM notifications overwhelming Exchange mail server

There's certainly been a change with some of the latest firmware releases. I saw it first with ILO 1.82 and now with the recent Array Firmware.

You could change the Severity of the MIB. From Options ->Events->SNMP Trap Settings. I believe it is in the CPQHost.MIB.

I still surprised that it knocked over Exchange. We're running about 100 Servers here. And the e-mails go to multiple recipients. It was a bit of a pain but certainly didn't knock over Exchange.
