SIM working

Hi,
HP System Insight Manager (SIM) is a tool that monitors the hardware for servers using SNMP queries. Does it work only for HP servers or does it have plugins to make it work for all different types of servers. Kindly help.

Re: SIM working

hi,

at a basic level as an snmp trap manager hp sim can monitor anything that can send an snmp trap to it. you may need to compile a mib in hp sim for the new device (if it has one) to make sense of platform specific events, otherwise most servers use a generic set of mibs that hp sim already uses.
if you are talking about the further management functions some of the agents provide the AFAIK HP only does these for their own systems.

hope this helps

Hi,
Can you elaborate more on the last sentence.
"if you are talking about the further management functions some of the agents provide the AFAIK HP only does these for their own systems."
What is AFAIK??

Re: SIM working

sorry AFAIK = As Far As I Know.

as long as you have a mib for it then hp sim should be able to make some sense of the traps.
if you have ibm servers managed by ibm director you can forward the traps from ibm director to hp sim after you have compiled in the ibm director mibs

hope this helpds
